Our online program includes weekend clinical training and an externship.

Program Length: 48 Weeks**

The College of Health Care Professions Dental Assisting online program is designed with the busy student in mind. By combining our innovative online learning platform with hands-on training, our program will have you ready to become a certified dental assistant in less than a year. 

With the increase in preventative dental services and oral health being linked to overall health, Dental Assistant positions are expected to increase by 11% over the next decade according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. CHCP has built our program to serve Houston area students looking to become a part of this growing field. 


How does the Online Dental Assisting program work?

CHCP incorporates online instructions with the benefit of three weekends of on-campus hands-on clinical skills training. Additionally, you will have access to our 24/7 IT support and your assigned Student Services Advisor to guide you on your path to success.  At the end of the program, you will be able to exhibit your technical skills with a clinical externship.

What Dental Assisting Skills Will I Learn?

In our innovative online dental assisting program, you will receive training and professional skills to prepare you for success in your future career as a Dental Assistant. These skills include:

  • Personal oral hygiene

  • Emergency medical treatment

  • Taking/recording blood pressure

  • Cleaning infectious spills

  • Preparation and recalculation of instruments

  • Exposing adult radiography

  • Obtaining and recording patient histories

  • Recording dental exams

  • Medical terminology

  • Tooth morphology

  • Dental charting

  • Office administration procedures

  • Professionalism with other dental associates

  • Compassionate patient care

Because this program features hands-on lab learning, you will be able to spend time working with our skilled faculty to learn about special populations, pedodontics, orthodontics, restorative dental care, periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery.

Towards the end of your training, you will also have the opportunity to learn about special populations, pedodontics, orthodontics, restorative dental care, periodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics, and oral surgery. 

Certify Your Skills

Throughout the Dental Assisting online program, we train you for your Registration with the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners. Upon graduating from the program, you will be prepared to take a course and exam required by the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners approved provider. Upon passing the exam, you will be able to register for the Registered Dental Assistant X-Ray Certificate. To learn more about this process, visit the Texas State Board of Dental Examiners.
