Our Network Systems Administration program is offered via Blended Delivery. This combination of online and onsite class work affords students the ability to access and study materials when not on campus.  Because the same instructor will access the class online as in the classroom students are able to reach out and discuss assignments both in the classroom and online.   Student will be learning through both virtual and hands on experience how to configure a network, enhance existing network installations, and support various network and system hardware and software.  Students are able to access CISCO Academy through the CHCP IT courses and will be prepared to take the CCENT certification exam.  CHCP also partners with CompTIA to train and prepare student for the CompTIA A+ certification exam. Both of these are done while earning an Associate of Applied Science Degree.  Successfully having a combination of CISCO, CompTIA certifications with an Associate Degree presents a strong professional message to employers. 

                            

What does a Network Systems Administrator do?

A Network Systems Administration professional can either function as a network administrator or a system administrator. 

Their responsibilities include designing, installing, and configuring a network or system solution enabling a company for optimal network and system performance. They are also responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and enhancing existing network installations.  They are versatile in that they are responsible for providing support for various network and system hardware and software. 

Professionals who work as network and computer systems administrators typically do the following:

  • Determine an organization’s network and computer system needs before setting one up
  • Install all network hardware and software and make needed upgrades and repairs
  • Maintain network and computer system security and ensure that all systems are operating correctly
  • Collect data in order to evaluate and optimize network or system performance
  • Add users to a network and assign and update security permissions on the network
  • Train users in the proper use of hardware and software
  • Interpret and solve problems when a user or an automated monitoring system alerts them that one exists

What is the job outlook for Network Systems Administration professionals?

Many students today learn “on the go” how to work on networks and computer systems; but, having a CISCO CCNET or CNA certification and CompTIA A+ certification tells employers that the individual has met the industry standards most sought after in employees.

Employment of network and computer systems administrators is projected to grow 8 percent from 2014 to 2024*, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Demand for information technology workers is high and should continue to grow as firms invest in newer, faster technology and mobile networks.

NETWORK SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATION TRAINING COURSES - Blended Delivery 

The delivery method for this program is blended. General Education courses will be delivered via online distance education and noted with an (*). The core course will be delivered via both residential and distance education.

** The student will practice what they learn on both real equipment and also in virtual environments utilizing Cisco Packet Tracer, a network configuration simulation tool (The Packet Tracer program is very similar to the actual Cisco testing environment).

*** The student will practice with server and desktop hardware as well, learn how to build, manage, and deploy virtual environments using industry standard VMware and VM server platforms.
