How Online Medical Billing and Coding Training Works

This program combines self-paced online modules with practical experience through a supervised externship. Here's how it breaks down:

Online Coursework

Online courses include a structured sequence of modules that introduce foundational topics like medical terminology, healthcare systems, and electronic health records before advancing into focused billing and coding instruction. Each module builds on the last, creating a learning experience that’s manageable and meaningful.

Externship Experience

In your final module, you’ll participate in an externship, where you can apply what you’ve learned in a real medical setting. This experience gives you a chance to observe workflows, develop confidence, and see how administrative healthcare professionals support patient care behind the scenes.

Certification Preparation

Coursework includes preparation for industry-recognized certification exams such as the Nationally Registered Certified Coding Specialist (NRCCS) exam. You’ll review skills covered in earlier modules and get guided support on how to prepare for the credentialing process.
