Throughout the program, students engage in online courses from home and finish with an externship that puts classroom knowledge into practice in a real-world healthcare setting.
Modules cover a wide range of topics, including anatomy and physiology, pathopharmacology, healthcare law and ethics, healthcare delivery systems, healthcare statistics, and coding with ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT/HCPCS. Coursework is structured but includes flexibility for those managing work, family, or other commitments.
This program is delivered entirely online and does not require in-person lab sessions. Skills are developed through interactive activities, coding simulations, and software training within your coursework.
The program concludes with a 90-hour on-site or virtual externship. This experience allows you to apply coding and billing skills in a healthcare environment, working alongside professionals to reinforce classroom concepts.
A dedicated Certification Review course is included to help you prepare for nationally recognized coding credential exams. While CHCP provides exam preparation, credentialing requirements and costs are set by external agencies and are subject to change.
