I could give you several reasons why choosing a Medical Assisting Career is great, but I will give you the top three. Let’s start with the most obvious one. A Medical Assistant career is one of and continues to be one of the fastest growing careers. According to the Bureau of Labor and Statistics “Job Outlook” it is expected to grow 31% between 2010 and 2020. http://www.bls.gov/ If you can handle the thought of needles, and you can stomach the smell of saline, I say Go for it!!

Secondly, this is truly a helping field, and if you love to help people this is the field for you. Working in the health care industry allows you to assist others by honing your medical-related knowledge and competence. In addition to knowing the ins and outs of a medical practice, medical assistants interact a great deal with patients. In this field, the responsibilities of a medical assistant can range anywhere from greeting patients at the front desk, to removing sutures. You will have opportunities in emergency and community clinics as well as large organizations like the Red Cross. Being a Medical Assistant, gives you the great responsibility of seeing people when they are sometimes in their most vulnerable state, a parent with a sick child, a nervous couple having their first baby, a natural disaster that brings in a rush of people seeking medical attention. When most people are at home in the winter season suffering from flu symptoms you are assisting in the healing and preventative process. Even when you have a challenging day at work, you can feel confident in knowing that tomorrow is likely to bring an interesting medical procedure or issue that will solidify your purpose for choosing this field. What a great feeling it could be to be a part of something bigger than you!

Lastly, have you ever wanted to know what HIPAA actually means? The College of Health Care Professions has a great Medical Assistant Certificate Program.
