CHCP graduate Mika’s story featured in Hechinger Report

Today, the Hechinger Report featured an opinion piece by  Mika Thibeaux, a graduate of the College of Health Care Professions (CHCP) and LeNetia Edwards, executive director of CHCP’s Houston Med Center campus. The piece titled “My college helped saved me so I can get a job saving others” Mika shares her story from homelessness to a career and the importance of the support she received from CHCP during her struggles. She advocates for colleges nationwide to build environments where students feel comfortable opening up and where they have easy access to the resources needed to elevate their skills and graduate. With an estimated one in 10 college students experiencing or at risk of homelessness, Mika’s success story is a testament to human-centered learning that recognizes the circumstance, needs and entirety of the student.
