Houston Northwest Campus President Honored

CHCP Campus President Honored by University of Houston Law Center as Beacon of Light

September 26 2019

On September 26, 2019, the University of Houston Law Center will honor Dr. Himesh Lakhlani, the Campus President of CHCP’s Northwest Campus, as a “Beacon of Light” for his work to advance inclusion, equality, and justice. The award will be presented at a gala to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Arrival Awards, which honor immigrant Houstonians who promote peace and unity. The event is being hosted in partnership with the World Affairs Council of Greater Houston, the Houston Ballet, the Houston Grand Opera and Houston Public Media.

Dr. Lakhlani was born near Mumbai, India, and immigrated to Rochester, New York, at the age of three. He was the first in his family to graduate from high school, college, and medical school. The honor is in recognition of his commitment to expanding education in the Houston area, including his role in the collaboration between The College of Health Care Professions, Mayor Sylvester Turner’s office and Houston Independent School Districts’ Momentum Academies to award scholarships to underserved students.  Dr. Lakhlani also serves as Chair of the Advisory Council with Harmony Public Schools and started a free camp at CHCP for high school students, many from immigrant families, to explore healthcare careers.
